About

The Random Cat Project records brief encounters in public places with unknown cats, documenting flings with felines both fickle and friendly.

It was established in 2009 by two lifelong cat lovers (@starcarbon and @izabel_blue) whose current living conditions in central London do not support pet ownership. So whenever a fleeting meeting with a random cat takes place, it is a bittersweet experience worth recording. This is not about documenting cats we know and love – it’s about the momentary excitement of finding one crossing your path by chance.

Timid cats, feisty cats, cats who run away from us, cats who run towards us… we try to record all these cats who belong to everyone and no one. Bonus points are awarded for winning over the stand-offish ones. If you have your own videos or photos of similar be-whiskered friends, please send them in.
